Biography:

Bio:

Dr. Gaddis received a Ph.D. in Sociology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2013. He recently finished his tenure as a Robert Wood Johnson Scholar in Health Policy Research at the University of Michigan where he conducted research on mental health among college students and stigma across college campuses. Prior to that he was a 2012-13 National Academy of Education/Spencer Dissertation Fellow.

Dr. Gaddis is seen as an emerging scholar in the field of racial discrimination. He conducts experimental studies on whether racial discrimination occurs, under what contexts, and how educational credentials and other information alter the severity of racial discrimination. His research in this area has been published in Social Forces and The Annals of the American Academy of Political and Social Science with other complete studies currently under review and more in the data collection phase supported by grants from the Spencer Foundation and the Russell Sage Foundation.

Furthermore, he works to improve the methods of detecting and understanding racial discrimination. To that end, he has embarked on two large scale projects in recent years. In the first, he brings together four data sources, including two original data collections, to examine the signals of race conveyed in correspondence audits. In the second, he brings scholars together to create a much-needed volume on the audit correspondence method. He is editor and contributor to Audit Studies: Behind the Scenes with Theory, Method, and Nuance, due out from Springer in 2017.
