Every year the department shall recognize and honor two outstanding individuals for their success and influence as leaders, for significant career achievements, and for being outstanding role models for current students.

Eligibility for Award
Outstanding Alumni in Criminology
Any person may be nominated who is a graduate of the College of the Liberal Arts and majored in Sociology, Criminology, Crime, Law and Justice, Administration of Justice or another degree historically administered by the department.
Outstanding Alumni in Sociology
Any person may be nominated who is a graduate of the College of the Liberal Arts and majored in Sociology.
Nature of the Awards
Awardees will be invited to campus to receive their award at the department award ceremony. To appropriately recognize awardees, awards will be presented to recipients who can attend the ceremony. Recipients who are not able to attend the ceremony in the year nominated will be invited to participate in a subsequent year.
Selection Process
A representative from the alumni relations and development office, in conjunction with the Board Chair and the Head of the Sociology and Criminology Department, will narrow the nomination list to no more than five candidates. The Department will then consult with the Alumni Engagement Committee to make the final selection. will work closely with the Department of Sociology and Criminology Board of Visitors Awards Committee on the nomination process.
The final candidate will be approved by the dean in advance of being notified. The Board of Visitors is responsible for making the final selection and forwarding the nominations to the Department Head and Susan Welch Dean of the College of the Liberal Arts for approval before the nominees are notified.
Nominations are solicited from peers, colleagues, friends, faculty, staff, alumni, volunteers and supporters of the Department and the College. Nominators are asked to complete and submit the following Nomination Form. Awardee solicitations are welcome at any given time.
