Professional Bio

Ian is a first-year doctoral student in sociology. He is most interested in the study of prosocial and compassionate behavior, particularly through investigating how donors interact with charities. He is fascinated by gaps between donors’ attitudes and behaviors, as well as how social distance, norms, stigmas, and statuses influence their giving decisions. He has also worked on projects and publications covering a variety of topics, including education and social class, healthcare and nutrition, anti-racist community building, and fair trade consumption. He has a passion for and experience with both quantitative and qualitative approaches to social research.
