Professional Bio
Broadly, Joe is interested in using causal inference techniques and machine learning to understand the effects of criminal justice policy and criminal justice organizations on both individuals and communities. Past and current research projects involve investigating how: 1) the changing racial/ethnic composition of the Chicago police affected policing practices, 2) incarceration affects children and community health differentially over time, and 3) different configurations of courtroom actors affect the likelihood of a defendant receiving bail.
