Professional Bio
I am a doctoral candidate in sociology and demography at the Pennsylvania State University. I apply quantitative methodology to two primary strands of research. First, I examine the causes and consequences of religious socialization. How does the type and extent of religious upbringing influence later characteristics and behaviors? What early-life factors contribute to or undermine religious commitment in adulthood? Second, I study the role that religious influences play in American political polarization. How do different religious factors shape political belief and engagement, and what are the consequences for a pluralistic democracy? These two strands share a common theme of seeking to understand the roots and ramifications of moral difference in American society.
